I am a sailor, heart and soul. Nothing except not having a sailboat keeps me out of a boat.
Thank you to all the amazing writers from the We Said Go Travel 2013 Gratitude Travel Writing Contest!
I traveled through 14 countries to barter an apple for bigger and better goods until I finally reached my goal - a house in Hawaii.
So that I was always trading up, I had to develop certain strategies. One such strategy was to change countries. I would take my “good” from one market and enter a market in which this good had a higher value.
My mouth is watering as I write this. Food is something I love to experiment with, although most times I end up burning it to the bottom of a pan. I made charcoal out of soup once! Oh well…
The countdown has begun! Only 11 days to the start of the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

I had to thank the neighbors. You see, we've had quite the blizzard season here in Michigan, and last night we got another foot (!) of snow. Since we hadn't fully cleared our driveway (ahem) from the last few blizzards, the car was buried. We woke up and knew that today was going to be one long shoveling blitz.
We love the work of our BC Editor, Curtis Cunningham. He's a photographer with an EYE. Now, one might argue that all photographers have that eye, but Curtis is something special.
One of the curses of living in the boonies is the lack of great ethnic food and grocery stores. ALAS!
There isn't much that I like more than visiting lighthouses during the summer. The sun, the sand, and sunny skies lend themselves to long lazy days walking along the beach, sun bathing, boating, and building sand castles.
We're lucky here in Michigan, where more than 110 lighthouses dot the coasts of the Great Lakes that surround our state's Lower and Upper Peninsulas, and I'm especially fortunate to have visited many of these historic beauties over the years.
