Plums Restaurant, Beaufort, SC

Ask any local resident of Beaufort, SC where to eat lunch or dinner, and he will tell you Plums Restaurant on Bay Street. Housed in an historic building in Beaufort’s quaint downtown, Plums is a casual, friendly place with incredibly fresh food and great service. It is situated along the picturesque riverfront, and you can dine inside or out.

Beaufort, South Carolina

French-trained Chef Will McLenagan knows how to serve up a meal and awaken your taste buds in ways you never thought possible. My family ate lunch here at the bar, and we were all saying “Mmmmmm” a lot. We had the chance to chat with the bartender and two nice ladies who were also eating lunch. The menu features sandwiches, wraps, burgers, quesadillas and salads, which may not sound original – but trust me the way they are prepared is deliciously unusual. My husband had seafood soup, which he thought was divine. Even better than that was his crab cake sandwich with Dijon chive mayo, perfectly fitting for this part of the country where crabs are abundant. My daughter ate part of a gargantuan Organic Green Salad, which I also tasted. We brought it home and enjoyed it with our dinner. I ate a scrumptious Chicken Salad Sandwich on Sourdough with a side of the lightest, crispiest sweet potato fries. These fries are their signature side dish. There’s a special kids’ menu too.

By the time we had finished our lunch, there was a line out the door. The eager faces of those waiting to be seated is the best advertising Plums could ask for.

The restaurant is also open for dinner and features a nice selection of appetizers such as crab cakes over wasabi slaw with sweet Thai chili sauce, BBQ flatbread pizza and Tabasco garlic shrimp. There are 5 different seafood pasta dinners, seafood, chicken, duck and pork entrees, incredible salads similar to the lunch menu, including Candied Pecan and Roquefort Salad and mouth-watering side dishes. There is also an extensive beer and wine list to ponder over.

At night there are wine-tastings and other events. Check out the website for more info.
