What? No haggis?

We had haggis once at a Scottish fest in Thunder Bay, ON. I think we were two of very few who dared try it that day

I love hearing bagpipes, too. This fest looks like a lot of fun.

As longtime readers of Wandering Educators will know, i LOVE Scotland. I love it when I am able to visit, I love bagpipes, and the sea, and the Highlands, and tartans, and history...well, the list goes on. When we were in Minnesota recently, we had the good fortune to attend the Minnesota Scottish Fair & Highland Games.

It was so much fun! From the Highland Games and Heavy events, to Highland Dancing, to Piping - it was wonderful! There was a plethora of Clan Tents around, for people to learn and explore their Scottish History (our family descends from Clan Cumming). There were plenty of vendors, of all sorts of great treats. There were kids activities, Highland cattle, a Scottish Tea Room, and more.  There was even a multi-person Nessie wandering around!

There were bagpipe competitions, and it was glorious to watch and listen. The best, of course, was saved for last - a massed Pipe Band on the field. It gave goosebumps (and that wasn't just the nippy wind!).  Here are some photos that we took at the Minnesota Scottish Fair - enjoy!
