Pitons
The Pitons are two volcanic mountain plugs that just about touch the heavens on the southern island of Saint Lucia. The Pitons are a World Heritage Site and are located on the southwest area of the island next to the town of Soufriere. When you’re not hiking up the colossal volcanic structure, take to the ocean and check out the coral reefs that cover almost 60% of the site’s marine area. The biodiversity includes 168 species of finfish, 60 species of cnidarian, 14 sponges, 11 echinoderms, 15 anthropoids, and eight annelid worms. After you’ve dried off have a look around to take stock of the 27 different bird species, five of which are specific to the region.
Princess Margaret Beach
Located on the island of Bequia, this 500-yard stretch of beach is widely hailed as the most beautiful beach in the whole of the Lesser Antilles. Golden sands and cedar and mango trees adorn this stunning shoreline. Tourism and developments are just about absent, making this beach the perfect place for a peaceful, romantic retreat. After a day’s worth of relaxation, you can make your way to the Lower Bay for a livelier nightlife.
Canouan
Canouan, pronounced can-ah-wan, is just one of the many islands that make up the Grenadines. The island is only 3.5 miles long and is home to a delicate population of 1,700 people. The whole island is a nature wonderland. On the Atlantic side of the mountain, you’ll find a barrier reef that’s perfect for snorkeling or fishing. While not having much, the island is home to a top of scuba center that leads snorkeling and scuba excursions on a daily basis.
