I've got a fun product to share with our Wandering Educators today! You know how you are always trying to get things smaller & lighter before you travel? Whether it is wardrobe, luggage, or even your wallet - every little bit counts. I was so pleased to find PaperWallet - a thin, light wallet that is just perfect for traveling. It was featured during Fashion Week in Paris this year for a reason - it's stylish, purposeful, and has great design. We were lucky enough to sit down and talk with the CEO of PaperWallet, Elad Burko, about the genesis of Paperwallet, the artists involved, and more. Here's what he had to say...
WE: Please tell us about Paperwallet...
EB: Paperwallet - a new approach to the classic accessory that is the perfect solution for the eco-conscious, fashion minded consumer.
The wallet is made from Tyvek. Tyvek is the perfect material for a wallet as it is strong, flexible, smooth, recyclable, resistant to aging and both thinner and lighter than paper.
The Paper Wallet is the thinnest, most comfortable wallet available. Its innovative design allows it to fit up to 12+ credit cards in addition to plenty of cash - The perfect combination of style and function.
WE: What was the genesis of Paperwallet?
EB: In 2006 a friend of mine came back from a trip to Italy and gave me a homemade wallet made by an Italian artist. He had printed his design on paper, laminated it, cut it into six pieces and sewed it together.
I really like the idea of an artsy wallet. I wanted to have multiple artists create different designs that I can make available to everyone. The idea is to popularize the art and the artists while at the same time popularizing the Paper Wallet.
WE: Who are the artists you've gotten to design Paperwallets?
EB: At this point there are 4 artists whose designs are already on the shop page and many more artists and designs are currently in our pipeline to be released shortly.
The wallets are being designed by both well known and emerging artist from all over the world. We find many of the artist when we travel and see graffiti we like, party fliers or in museums. In addition, we also find artists online and via word of mouth.
In the coming weeks our first series of designer wallets will be released and we have some big name artists already preparing their wallets for the second series.
WE: Is there anything else you'd like to share with us?
EB: We are happy to offer your readers a 10% discount on any of the wallets on the site. Simply type "travel" in the coupon code box on the shop page to get your discount.
WE: Thanks so much, Elad. We love paperwallet!
