Las Galeras is a beautiful town on the coast of The Dominican Republic. It has sparkling oceans, sandy beaches, and small restaurants. Every afternoon, you can see local fisherman arrive on the shore with their catch.

Children splash in the water and play in the sand. A few places along the shore serve snacks and drinks. It is a great place to spend a vacation and relax.

I spent a month in Las Galeras, and one of the things that I enjoyed was the people. We made many friends, some children, and some adults. There was one small bar/restaurant that we loved because of the friendly people who ran it.

If you walk a small way down the beach from that restaurant, you will find a small peninsula covered with little tide pools full of sea hares, fish, and shiny conch shells.

A stroll through town will lead to food stands selling empanadas, and dusty side roads leading to different expanses of sandy shoreline.

A small local school is painted in a cheery yellow, full of young children.

Friendly dogs roam the streets, barking for scraps of food. A fresh juice stand is set up in front of one of the entrances to the beach, and a cheery woman calls out her wares. Las Galeras is a hustling, local village, and an interesting place to spend a vacation.
