I've got a great resource to share with our Wandering Educators today! It's an ebook by a world traveler we've featured several times already, Nomadic Matt. Click here to read our interviews with Matt on How to Travel the World and How to Teach English Overseas.
Now we're reviewing his latest book, How to Teach English Overseas
Matt's got the goods on teaching overseas. Chapters include:
TEFL Certificates and Programs
Teacher Requirements
Different Types of Teaching Jobs
Benefits and Salaries
Country Information
This book is a gem. It is the product of years of experience and research that Matt has done. He taught in Asia and also brings in many different perspectives from around the world. As he says, "This book was written by English teachers to help future English teachers."
The chapters are detailed and provide information for anyone starting out in the field, or an experienced teacher thinking about heading to a new country to teach. Matt outlines the pros and cons for teaching in different schools/jobs. This is critical for someone just starting out and looking at the field.
Perhaps the most useful (and largest) chapter is Country Information, where he outlines the working conditions, teacher salary information, benefits, working visa information, cost of living, and, most importantly, job links. THIS ALONE is worth many times the cost of the book.
What I love about this book is the amount of detail, thoughtfulness as to what the reader will need, and of course, the comprehensive information on all the places to teach English overseas - this is incredibly well-researched and well worth the $10 price! It's a great investment in your future.
We highly recommend this book and thank Matt for writing a book that is so desperately needed in the field today.
