History Comes Alive at The US Grant Hotel

San Diego visitors can see history come alive at The US Grant Hotel. This magnificent property, designed by Harrison Albright, took five years to build. On October 15, 1910, the hotel opened with a final price tag of 1.9 million dollars. After a handful of renovations in the last century, the hotel still maintains its grandeur and commemorates its remarkable history by showcasing images and artifacts throughout the property.

Safety Guide: Traveling Alone for the First Time

Traveling alone is one of the most amazing experiences that everyone should have at least once in their lives. When being on the road on your own, you get the opportunity to test your limits, and discover and understand yourself better, because it is just you with your own thoughts and the emotions for everything new that experienced on your journey.

Beyond the Rainbow: The Judy Garland Musical at Farmers Alley Theatre

Beyond the Rainbow, naturally, is a song-based glimpse into Judy Garland’s life - her turmoil, struggles, loves, and addictions. It is thoughtful, clever, and, at times, even comical. To say that this is the most unique, insightful musical would be spot on. There is truly nothing like it.

Musing Mediterranean: Cruising

When we first set eyes on the Celebrity Equinox Cruise Ship, the only words I could think to say were, “Holy crap!  This ship is freaking huge.” It was like a small city floating on water.  The adults had all traveled by cruise ship before, but this was by far the largest ship any of us had been on.

Autumn Pumpkin Soup

This delicious soup hails from Scotland, where we had it one evening after a  long drive to Shannon Airport and short flight from Ireland, and before a drive in the dark from Edinburgh to Inverness. Our friends created such a loving, homecooked meal that the hardships of travel were erased.

Now, we are comforted by this easy-to-make soup every single time we enjoy it - and think of Scotland, and friends, and the love you put into cooking.

#StudyAbroadBecause it will expand your world

Hi, I'm Emily!  I'm currently a junior in college studying Spanish and Education.  In preparing to study abroad in Mexico last spring, I noticed there isn't a ton of information out there from people who have studied abroad in Latin America, so when I got back, I started my blog, Emily Abroad, to share my experience. I post practical tips and tricks, travel diaries highlighting our excursions to different parts of Mexico, and personal reflections on my experience.

Through the Eyes of an Educator: Empowering Wonder

It’s October. For many, October means pumpkin spiced everything, apple cider always, and endless fall festivals. It brings about leaf-peeping season, Boston’s Head of the Charles crew race, and the simplest and grandest of costume parties. Having moved to San Diego, my October means the same as my August and September - just the way I like it, but it means that those who wish for the wonder of a crisp fall day need to seek it out to make it happen.
