English is truly a lingua franca, or global language. It is spoken in countries throughout the world and studied by millions of students every day. However, English, evolutionarily speaking, is a relatively new language. To understand where English comes from, let’s journey back to the beginning of language itself.
China: it’s the world’s second largest country, and the world’s most populous, as well. China is an ancient place, based on one of the earliest civilizations, which has flourished for thousands of years. The first imperial dynasty, the Xia, emerged around 2070 BCE.
On a warm Spring afternoon we added Fried Elderflowers or fiori di sambuco fritti to the menu - these edible flowers when fried in a beer batter create a light, crunchy, aromatic antipasti/appetizer!

There is an amazing event that happens here in West Virginia every year; the blooming of our state flower, the Great Rhododendron. All across the Mountain State these beautiful plants burst forth with color and one place in particular is a prime location to take in not only the sights of these blooms but the smells as well. I'm referring to Grandview Park.
Every month, since I started writing for Wandering Educators, I ask my dad what he thinks of my article. It borders between ‘loved it’ and ‘not your best’. The ‘not your best’ always bugs me because when I ask why, the response is ‘it’s just not your best.’ Gee, thanks. I couldn’t figure that out from your first statement.
So, about a year ago, my family and I stayed a few nights in a cave house in Andalusia. We had heard about Castril, a little village buried in the mountains, there was supposed to be a market. Feeling touristy, we decided to go check it out.
